FamilySAFE is proud to offer The Above Ground Tornado Shelter. This tornado shelter is available in two different styles. We have a solid, welded one piece unit as well as our bolt together unit when installation inside the home is necessary. Both units are EF5 certified and offer you complete protection from the storm as well as intruders and will provide you with equal amounts of safety during a variety of natural disasters.

Patent-Pending Tornado Shelter Technology

The new patent pending “no-pinch” MAX door is comprised of two thick impenetrable skins separated by an internal square tubing frame. Because it weighs over 400lbs, FamilySAFE manufactures our own very large hinges for all of our above ground storm shelters. These exclusive hinges serve a major role in the FamilySAFE SAFE-T-DOOR system and allow for a very easy, smooth swing. Our EXCLUSIVE SAFE-T Door insures that you and your family do not become trapped inside the tornado safe room after a deadly tornado.

Securing the door are three Commercial Grade one locks. In addition to the locks, the door may also be secured with two solid 6061 Aircraft grade Aluminum 1”x1” bars.

At FamilySAFE we’re making one of the strongest above ground storm shelter doors in the industry. In fact, just the storm shelter door has over 250,000 lbs of shear resistance. Not only is our door strong, it still incorporates all the rigorous safety features that make being trapped inside the above ground tornado shelter virtually impossible, and our exclusive no-pinch clearance system helps to prevent fingers from getting caught in the door as well as having the most ventilation of any unit. Our tornado shelters are tested and certified to withstand EF5 level winds at Texas Tech University and meet or exceed the criteria in FEMA P-320 (FEMA, 2008a) and FEMA P-361 (FEMA, 2008b), ICC-500/NSSA as well as ALL other standards private and public.
